Hope Refugee Services provides a welcoming place where refugees can “drop-in” and receive assistance: immediate help with short term concerns, support for long term challenges, and referral to other refugee service providers in the community.
Refugee families want to be self-sufficient. They work hard towards that end. At HRS we walk alongside families and serve as a safety net until they reach their goal.
Drop-in Center

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Drop-in Center offers refugees a place to literally “drop-in” and receive assistance, whether it is immediate help with short term challenges, support for long term challenges, or referrals to other refugee service providers in the community. Caseworkers and translators work together to provide refugees with answers to any questions they might have.
Examples of Services Provided: Transportation and follow-up for medical appointments, assistance in completing application for DSS, subsidized housing, employment; support for single moms; housing advocacy; assistance in communicating with teachers and principals; referrals to other social services agency.
FLY: Focused Learning for Youth

Monday-Friday, 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
FLY is an after-school program for middle school students. The mission of the FLY Program is to assist refugee students in achieving the grade content and knowledge of their American peers: fully meeting the standards and requirements of their grade level. While the focus of the program is academic, we strive to meet youth’s holistic needs: social, emotional, behavioral and educational.
Sewing Program

The Hope Refugee Sewing Project empowers refugee women and men through teaching the skill of sewing. The classes are taught by local volunteers and provide an opportunity for refugees to develop cross-cultural friendships in a supportive environment. Sewing students develop a greater sense of self-sufficiency by making their own clothing and household items. Each student receives a sewing machine, fabric, and sewing notions. All supplies have been donated to the sewing project.
Donation Room

Located in the Hope Refugee House at 318 Breckenridge, the Donation Room is a collection of items frequently needed by refugee families. It provides used baby and children’s clothing, winter coats and boots of all sizes, shoes, sneakers, small household appliances, and blankets.
