Who We Are

Our Mission
Hope Refugee Services of Buffalo is a faith-based organization dedicated to helping refugees become contributing members of their communities by empowering them to overcome persistent economic, educational, cultural and health barriers.

Statistics
The Hope Drop-in-center servers approximately 1200 individuals and families. Twenty-two refugee middle-schoolers participated in the FLY after-school program last year, and the Hope Refugee Sewing Program served 40 men and women last year.  Twenty-five Burmese and African families participated in the City Roots home-buyers education club, and two families recently purchased homes.

The Baobab Tree: Hope’s Logo
Our logo is consciously centered around the image of a Baobab tree. In Africa, the Baobab tree is called “the tree of life.” During the rainy season, it provides protection for wildlife and often, even people take shelter in the tree’s branches.  The flowers, leaves and fruit provide nourishment, while the bark is used to make baskets, rope, and medicine. Through its ability to nurture life, the baobab tree is a symbol of hope. In the same way, Hope Refugee Services desires to nurture the lives of refugees and provide hope for the future.
